How to Perfect your Skincare Routine
If you pay close attention to your skin, you will notice when it changes in appearance, and what affect skincare products have on your skin. It may not seem like it, but everything from the lotion you apply to your skin to the food you eat influences your skin.
What you may not realize is that the sequence in which you apply skincare products does affect your skin. Certain types of ingredients simply dilute each other. Timing also plays a role in the absorption of the products. How do you apply skin care products for the best possible results? This guide will walk you through the process.
STEP 1: APPLY FACIAL CLEANSER
Your first step in the morning should be to clear dirt and oil from your face to leave your face fresh. Gentle cleanser helps to remove dead skin cells, oil, makeup, and any pollutants that have made their way to your skin. Use your hands to apply the cleanser and rinse before dabbing your face dry.
Exfoliating a few times each week is also a good idea. Exfoliating skin removes dead skin cells that don’t come off with regular cleaning and reduces acne. Exfoliating also gives your skin a soft and supple feeling.
STEP 2: TONE IT UP
Toner offers a number of different benefits depending on the brand. Some toners deliver antioxidants to the skin, and others are focused on helping pores appear smaller. Toner can also balance your skin’s pH level, and also protect the skin from pollutants and provide some extra moisture.
It is best to avoid alcohol-based toners because the alcohol will strip away too many of your skins natural oils. A gentle toner is a better choice. Chamomile, Aloe Vera and Vitamin E are all soothing toner ingredients.
STEP 3: APPLY SPOT TREATMENTS
Spot treatments for acne go next. These treatments are meant to dry oil and kill bacteria that might lead to more acne. For mild acne, over-the-counter products are usually sufficient.
It is smart to let spot treatments sit for several minutes before applying other skincare products as waiting will allow for the best absorption of the cream.
STEP 4: USE SERUM
Serum typically includes Vitamin C as an ingredient to boost collagen development and reduce the appearance of fine lines. You want to apply the serum directly on the skin because it is typically such a dense combination.
An eye cream is another product that’s appropriate to use here as well. The eye cream can be applied twice a day to ensure that your eyelids do not lose their elasticity. These creams typically contain ingredients like hyaluronic acid, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, retinol and neuropeptides.
STEP 5: APPLY MOISTURIZER
Moisturizer helps repair your skin and prevent it from getting too dry. It may also prevent early aging and the appearance of fine lines. An added benefit is that moisturizer keeps skin from looking parched and flaky.
Many people believe that because they have oily skin they should not moisturize. The truth is that your face still needs hydration, especially after spending time outside or around chemicals. Think of moisturizer as relief for your face.
The best moisturizers will include ingredients like glycerin, hyaluronic acid, coconut oil, Shea butter, ceramides, and similar products. These ingredients create a softer, supple look.
