What is Clarifying Shampoo?
Sometimes picking the right shampoo can be challenging. There are so many kinds and the formulas keep changing. Let’s talk about a specific type of shampoo, clarifying shampoo. What exactly is it? What will it do to your hair? Do you need it? Why use it in the first place? We’ll talk about that and more.
What is Clarifying Shampoo?
Let’s start here first. What exactly is it? Well, clarifying shampoo is a deep cleanser that aims to remove residue and buildup.
How do you accumulate buildup in your hair? The buildup is your natural skin and oils alongside hair products that create residue and buildup on your hair. Which isn’t healthy for your skin or your hair follicles. Not all products create buildup, the main ingredients combined with your natural healthy stuff that would traditionally leave on its own are things like mineral oil, petroleum, waxes, butter, heavy oils, and silicones. So be careful with any shampoo because many have silicone in it, it's the look they give to make your hair shiny. Once you’ve determined products and how often you use them, let's start talking about when you should use clarifying shampoo.
When Should I use Clarifying Shampoo?
If you tend to use a lot of hair products, get a lot of oil buildup, have very hard water, or you’re a swimmer whose hair has a greenish tint from chlorine buildup. Generally speaking, anyone can use a clarifying shampoo. The best way to know if you should use it or not is if you have the signs of product buildup including your hair not cooperating, it feeling lifeless, excessive flakiness, extremely oil, breakage and damage, dryness, and/or excessive hair loss. If you potentially have one or all of these things it may be time to try a clarifying shampoo.
Just as a reminder if you aren’t sure whether or to use clarifying shampoo seek your cosmetologist. They will be able to see and look at your hair to see what the best bath is. Or learn by becoming a cosmetology student at the David Pressley School.
What Will Clarifying Shampoo do to my Hair?
It will do everything we’ve been chatting about here, it’ll remove the buildup in your hair, making it shiny and get it to its natural state.
Does it matter my Hair Type?
The long-short of it is it doesn’t matter the type of hair you have. You want to worry about any preexisting scalp conditions such as dermatitis and dandruff just so you pick the right one. It depends on how often you use it. If you have dry hair, use it less than if you have straight oily hair.
Clarifying shampoo is a great addition to any hair routine but it's like deep conditioners you don’t want to use it too often. You’ll need to figure out the right time to use it and how often to use it. Just remember you can always talk to your local beauty expert to figure out what’s best for you. Clarifying shampoo can be great and a great add-in between using your normal shampoo.
