FAQs About Our Michigan Beauty College

What courses do you offer at your beauty school?

We offer a education in cosmetology and esthetics, which can empower students with skills to pursue a career in beauty. With hands-on training from experienced instructors, our students can develop skills that allow them to unleash their beauty and creativity while meeting the needs of clients. Our cosmetology program covers a diverse curriculum that covers all aspects of the beauty industry, from hair cutting and styling to skin and nail care. Our esthetics program, exclusively offered at our Royal Oak location, takes a deeper dive into the art and science of skin. Whatever path you choose, our school can help you develop the skills you need to be successful in the ever-changing beauty industry.

How long does it take to complete your programs?

It depends on which program you take. Our cosmetology program includes 1500 hours of training, which students can complete in as little as 12 months. Our esthetician training course requires 600 hours of training and can be completed in as little as 20 weeks.

What schedule options are available for beauty school training?

We offer several scheduling options for students, including weekend and evening courses. Don’t let a busy and active life stop you from pursuing your dreams! Many students balance their education with other commitments, such as family, work, or schooling. We hope every aspiring beauty professional can pursue cosmetology or esthetics training, so we offer both day and evening classes. We also offer multiple start times throughout the year to make your training even more flexible. Our admissions team can explain your scheduling options during a campus tour.

How do I enroll in your school?

To enroll in David Pressley School of Cosmetology, you must be at least 17 years old and have a high school diploma or GED. You’ll also need a state ID and a signed social security card. The enrollment process begins with a campus tour. You can contact our Royal Oak or Taylor admissions teams to schedule a tour, during which they’ll discuss the enrollment process with you and help you get started with the necessary paperwork.

When do your cosmetology courses start?

We offer multiple course starting dates throughout the year. This makes it easier for students to fit their beauty education into a busy schedule. To find the date that works best for you, talk to our admissions team to learn when you can start.

FAQ About Financial Aid

How much do your courses cost?

We pride ourselves on offering affordable beauty school training, giving our students the best value for their money. The cost of your beauty school education will depend on the program you enroll in and the date you start your education. You can get the most accurate estimate by contacting our admissions team. Estimated program costs are:

  • Cosmetology: 
    • Tuition: $16,000
    • Books and kit: $850
    • Registration fee: $150 
    • Total: $17,000
  • Esthetics (only available at Royal Oaks): 
    • Tuition: $9,800
    • Books and kit: $550
    • Registration fee: $150 
    • Total: $10,500
  • Cosmetology Instructor: 
    • Tuition: $4,400
    • Books and kit: $450
    • Registration fee: $150 
    • Total: $5,000
Is financial aid available?

Yes, financial aid is available to those who qualify. We accept Federal Pell Grants, Federal Direct Student Loans, and outside scholarships. There are also payment plans offered through the school. You can discuss all of your financial aid options with an admissions advisor.

How do I apply for financial aid?

You can learn more about your options by speaking to an admissions advisor. However, we encourage all students to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®).

FAQ About Career Opportunities in the Beauty Industry

Do you guarantee job placement?

We do not. However, the beauty industry is rapidly growing. Licensed beauticians have opportunities to work in salons, spas, resorts, cruise ships, or even as their own bosses. We work closely with students to help them find opportunities. We can help prep you for the interview process and assist you in creating a resume for your job search.

What job opportunities are available after getting my license?

There are so many opportunities in the beauty industry! After completing your licensure, you might go on to be a:

  • Salon stylist
  • Makeup artist
  • Nail technician
  • Esthetician
  • Salon manager
  • Retail beauty consultant
  • Spa therapist
  • Salon owner
  • Beauty influencer

There are many diverse career paths available! During your training, you can choose a specialization and focus your training in that area to help prepare you for your future career.

How old do I need to be to become a cosmetologist or esthetician?

Students must be 17 years old to enroll in our programs.
